A Note on Thomson's Characterizations of the Uniform Rule
نویسنده
چکیده
Thomson (Consistent solutions to the problem of fair division when preferences are single-peaked, J. Econ. Theory 63 (1994), 219 245) proved that the uniform rule of the fair division problem, where preferences are single-peaked, is the unique rule which is bilaterally consistent, continuous, Pareto optimal, and envy-free, in a setting of an infinite number of potential agents. We show that the uniqueness of the uniform rule is achieved without assuming continuity, even in a setting of a finite number of potential agents. A similar result is obtained by replacing envy-freeness with individual rationality from equal division. Journal of Economic Literature Classification Numbers: D63, C71. 1996 Academic Press, Inc.

A note on the separability principle in economies with single-peaked preferences
We consider the problem of allocating an infinitely divisible commodity among a group of agents with single-peaked preferences. A rule that has played a central role in the analysis of the problem is the so-called uniform rule. Chun (2001) proves that the uniform rule is the only rule satisfying Pareto optimality, no-envy, separability, and -continuity. We obtain an alternative characterization...
متن کاملExp-Uniform Distribution: Properties and Characterizations
In this paper, we study properties of exp-uniform distribution and its applications. We provide closed forms for the density function and moments of order statistics and we also discuss estimation of the parameters via the maximum likelihood method. We will present certain characterizations of exp-uniform distribution. The applications of this distribution are illustrated by fitting it to three...
متن کاملA NOTE VIA DIAGONALITY OF THE 2 × 2 BHATTACHARYYA MATRICES
In this paper, we consider characterizations based on the Bhattacharyya matrices. We characterize, under certain constraint, dis tributions such as normal, compound poisson and gamma via the diago nality of the 2 X 2 Bhattacharyya matrix.
متن کاملBenford Distribution and its Applications
This papers considers the Benford distribution as one the interesting rules of probability theory. This rule shows that, despite of usual underestanding about the uniform distribution of digites for lieing on different positions in numbers, digits are distributed according to an non uniform distributions for numbers araising from many natural phonemena. Benford distribution proposes ...
متن کاملThe Separability Principle for the Division Problem with Participation Constraints
We study a division problem which allocates resources to agents with single-peaked preferences, who have a right to decide for the participation. We introduce the generalized uniform rule which assigns resources to agent as equally as possible subject to the participation constraints. We present various characterizations of the generalized uniform rule on the basis of separability principle.
